Chrysmela holds your earring securely in 2 ways: 

First: While invisible, 3 micro ball bearings are working hard to hold tight onto the earring posts when your earlobe is “sandwiched” between the earring and the back. So it may feel “normal” or “nothing special,” but rest assured, they are very secure.

Second: if your earring gets caught in your hair or sweater and moves,  Chrysmela firmly grips onto the little notch at the end of your earring post - this acts as a safety net. 

With or without the support disc? All models of Chrysmela Catch are identical in terms of mechanism and the locking security. The only difference is the optional PVC disc that you can choose at no extra cost for lift and support.

We introduced Chrysmela Extra with disc for customers who are accustomed to using a disc-type earring back. Chrysmela Catch is strong and secure enough on its own to hold even your heaviest statement earrings. But some delicate earlobes and elongated piercings may benefit from the extra support of Chrysmela Extra. Its larger format is also a bit easier to handle.

Which color of Chrysmela to choose? If many of your earrings are in platinum, silver or white gold, Chrysmela Platinum is your answer. However, because it will be hidden behind your ears, feel free to choose whichever color you like. Remember, we are all for your fashion freedom.

Chrysmela replaces all types of earring backs, for straight earring posts 0.6-1.1mm in diameter. This is the widest range of support in the world.

Yes! Chrysmela works beautifully on screw posts. With thicker screw threads, apply Chrysmela in the "unlocked" position to allow it to glide easily.

Just like eyeglasses or jewelry, Chrysmela needs cleaning periodically. Hair conditioners, sunscreen and natural skin oil may accumulate inside and may compromise Chrysmela’s strong hold.

We recommend cleaning Chrysmela every 4-6 weeks, and even more often during the summer months.

1. Soak
   Soak in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap for a few minutes. Use an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner for even better results.
2. Clean inside.
   Use a soft interdental brush, available online or at local drugstores. Use the 0.8mm size for best results.
   
   Insert the brush just like an earring post. Then, unlock Chrysmela and pull the brush gently. Rinse and repeat 2-3 times.

It may be time to clean your Chrysmela.

We recommend cleaning as soon as you feel a little less locking power. A simple cleaning will revive your Chrysmela's strong hold. For more information on how to clean your Chrysmela, watch this video.

Also, Chrysmela’s secure design inherently makes it move slightly, depending on the material and size of your earring posts. More importantly, they can be adjusted slightly for your comfort. It is still secure. Earring posts sometimes vary in size, even for the same pair of earrings. So you may feel one of the pair doesn't move, but the other moves slightly.

Chrysmela's locking mechanism is made to last with proper care for many years. Please note that the disc is made of PVC and may show normal wear-and-tear over time or may get damaged by repeated contact with hair spray, perfume, extreme temperature, and other elements.

With proper care and cleaning, your Chrysmela should last for years. 

It is important to note, however, that your Chrysmela Extra's disk is made of PVC, and may require replacement at some point in the future, due to the nature of PVC. It may show normal wear-and-tear over time or may get damaged by repeated contact with hair spray, perfume, extreme heat or dry weather and other elements. If you need to replace the disk, they are available here.  

Chrysmela sometimes locks onto a post so securely that it needs to be “unlocked” before being pulled out of the box, or removed from the earring.

Slide the tip of your fingernail under the very top plate of Chrysmela, unlock it, and then pull it away. Watch this help video here.

In general, we recommend Chrysmela to anyone who understands how to use the lock-and-unlock mechanism. Chrysmela is a small item and we believe it is the parent's judgement for the safe use of any product. We do recommend keeping it away from young children.

Additionally, while Chrysmela is hypoallergenic, some earring posts and base are not. That may trigger irritation, causing children to pull constantly on their earrings.
